Dear SIU Student:

You may have heard discussion on campus about “academic reorganization” and are wondering what it means to you.

As background, the university is currently engaged in a complex process to reorganize its academic administrative structure so that programs that have a similar focus are better aligned. For example, we currently have health-related programs located across three colleges on campus. We believe we can create more opportunities for students and faculty by putting related programs together so that there are more opportunities for multi-disciplinary teaching, learning and research.

It’s important for you to know that academic reorganization will have NO IMPACT on your academic program or your progress to completing the degree. We are simply reorganizing our existing programs into a different administrative structure to be more efficient and effective.

You can see the new structure as currently proposed, the current status of each school in the process, an FAQ about the academic reorganization, and a place to offer questions and comments at chancellor.siu.edu/Vision2025.

Meanwhile, I wish you all a wonderful holiday surrounded by family and friends.

Sincerely,
Kevin Dorsey, M.D., Ph.D
Acting Chancellor, SIU Carbondale
