Dear fellow Salukis:
Due to the impending winter storm with forecasts of accumulating ice, Southern Illinois University Carbondale will close at 2 p.m. today. This is an administrative closure. All classes (face to face, hybrid and online) will be canceled and will not be delivered remotely. Residence halls and residential dining centers will remain open as will the Department of Public Safety. The Rec Center will be open until 7 p.m. today and noon to 7 p.m. on Thursday. All other campus buildings and offices will be closed.
Essential personnel should report to work, but no other Carbondale campus employee needs to report to work during the closure. Employees who have questions should consult their supervisors.
At this time, the university is scheduled to reopen at 6 a.m. Friday, Feb. 4. The university will continue to monitor the weather forecast and road conditions, and we provide updates on campus operations as necessary.
Please note the following:
- For real-time weather updates, visit weather.gov.
- Residential dining centers will operate with normal hours.
- The Rec Center will be open until 7 tonight and noon to 7 p.m. on Thursday.
- On-campus COVID-19 testing at Grinnell Hall is closed today. We expect it to reopen Tuesday, Feb. 8, as scheduled.
- Tonight’s men’s basketball game will be held as scheduled. Visit siusalukis.com for options to watch or listen to the game.
Grounds workers will be clearing sidewalks, steps and parking lots as weather conditions permit. Avoid unnecessary travel and please use extreme caution as you move about campus.
Sincerely,
Emergency Operations Center
